At this year’s European Aviation Training Summit (3–5 November, Cascais, Portugal), Sam Lee, Director of Integra Aerospace, will bring a high-energy session to the Maintenance Conference Stream: Human Factors Training That Changes Behaviour and Promotes Wellbeing.
Speaking with Maintenance stream moderator Claudio Marturano, CEO of T-C-Alliance and a former licensed maintenance engineer, Lee said his goal is to make safety training genuinely interesting, engaging and interactive. Too often, people have sat through training that felt irrelevant to their daily work. Lee believes every participant should see, feel and apply its value in their own lives.
That belief has a personal origin. Lee had delivered safety training for years, but it stayed largely head knowledge until a senior SR Technics executive told him that everyone needs to get home safe to their families. That emotional connection shaped Integra’s Safety Lifestyle program, a blended learning product born during COVID. Tailored with each organization’s pain points and top human factors issues, it pairs short online videos with classroom time spent on discussion and scenario-based activities rather than hundreds of PowerPoint slides.
Lee freely shares his methodology so organizations can build similar programs in-house, and Integra has also used AI to develop a digital logbook for aircraft engineers to record their tasks.
Marturano noted that regulators will be in the room, giving the stream a chance to tackle a hard question: why is human factors training still the way it is, and how can it improve for the next generation?
