Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and Vodafone Ireland have received €4.6 million in EU funding to develop advanced digital technologies for new apprenticeship programmes in engineering and construction.

The funding comes from the EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital Fund and will be used to create innovative online and on-campus training tools. With additional investment from both partners, the total project funding will reach €6.25 million.

A central element of the initiative is the creation of Extended Reality (XR) labs, supported by a private 5G standalone network and on-campus edge computing infrastructure provided by Vodafone Ireland.

Italian technology company FifthIngenium, part of the project consortium, will contribute to designing immersive educational applications to enhance the XR learning experience.
