The Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) has begun a three-day virtual reality (VR) surgical training program in cataract procedures, hosted at its Ophthalmology Skill Lab. The Hospital-Based Training initiative, developed in partnership with Orbis International, brings together ophthalmologists, residents, and faculty from major eye hospitals in Bangladesh.

Sessions, led by a VR surgical training expert from the UK, allow participants to practise cataract techniques, manage complications, and refine instrument handling using lifelike virtual eyes. Trainees will later pass on their knowledge to additional eye care professionals nationwide.

This FVR Simulation system, donated by Orbis, follows a prior deployment in Chattogram and is now the second unit in Bangladesh, with a third planned for Dhaka. Organizers emphasized the program’s role in reducing early-career surgical errors and strengthening national ophthalmic training capacity.
