Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center will roll out a new Mobile Simulation Training Ambulance this summer, funded by a $35,000 grant from the Consortium for Healthcare Education and Training and the Building-ME Network Executive Council. The unit will expand hands-on training for EMS workers and healthcare professionals across central, eastern, and northern Maine, with a focus on high-risk scenarios like emergency obstetric and newborn care.

Hospital leaders note that regional providers have flagged a growing need for this kind of training, especially after four Maine maternity units closed in 2025, three within the center's service area. The new ambulance will let simulation staff bring high-fidelity mannequin training directly into rural communities, easing pressure on MaineHealth's existing mobile program, which is nearing capacity. Beyond clinical training, the unit will also support outreach at schools and community events to encourage future healthcare careers.
