Hospital Adopts New Life Support Training

Yampa Valley Medical Center has implemented a new way of completing its required staff life-support certification requirements.

Named the Resuscitation Quality Improvement program, the initiative enhances basic life-support certification and aims to improve retention of resuscitation skills. The training is made possible through the American Heart Association's HeartCode Complete program.

Staff must complete an online training module, then are coached in hands-on skills that are assessed and trained at a new simulation station. The simulation station is available to employees around-the-clock and includes both adult and infant mannequins.

Throughout the year, YVMC offers certifications in CPR, AED, first aid, basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, trauma nursing core course, a neonatal resuscitation program and an emergency nurse pediatric course.
