A Prince George company has introduced a virtual reality system designed to enhance local bear safety training. VR Training Solutions created the software to replicate encounters in the woods, giving participants a way to rehearse their reactions while using a headset. The company’s leadership noted that many people who complete standard courses still feel unsure about applying those skills outdoors, which motivated the push for a more lifelike practice environment.

The simulation places users in a realistic scenario that requires both physical movement and quick decision making, helping them develop muscle memory that could better transfer to real situations. A wildlife training professional who tested the system described it as offering an extremely close approximation of an encounter and expressed interest in incorporating it into existing programs.

The first module focuses on bear spray use and is intended to complement traditional classroom instruction.
