FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) has launched a new virtual reality training module as part of its Safe Driving course, aiming to improve road safety and driver education. The 3.5-hour classroom-based session presents 20 immersive scenarios across urban, rural, and motorway environments, using 360-degree video and VR headsets. Drivers experience road situations from multiple perspectives, including those of pedestrians and cyclists, helping reinforce hazard awareness and risk management.
The module can be used as an alternative to the on-cycle practical component to fulfill the FORS Silver requirement for Work-Related Road Risk training. It supports group learning through synchronized headsets and offers an online version for remote users. Developed to meet DVSA CPC standards, the course encourages interactive discussions and real-time decision-making reflection.
FORS concession director Geraint Davies said the program provides a safe yet highly immersive experience for drivers to engage with challenging road situations without real-world risk.
