Mechanical Engineering Technology students at Metropolitan State University of Denver are using virtual reality headsets to develop precision manufacturing skills in a hands-on, immersive environment. The technology was made possible by a donation from the Cordova Family Foundation, which enabled the purchase of 15 headsets now used in nine courses, impacting over 300 students.

The university prioritized quality, with a senior project dedicated to testing 132 simulations to identify the most effective tools. Instructors said the VR tools provide immediate feedback and simulate real-world tasks, from reading measurement scales to applying Ohm’s Law.

Faculty believe this immersive approach prepares students for the evolving demands of modern manufacturing, helping address projected labor shortages in the sector.
