A virtual reality-based training programme has been introduced in Hong Kong to support carers of premature and high-risk infants. Developed by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in collaboration with Hong Kong Christian Service, the programme combines VR simulations with online modules to train participants in essential care tasks such as feeding, holding, and diaper changing.
Known as the Virtual Reality Training Protocol for Early Childhood Professionals (VICTOR), the self-paced programme allows flexible learning and features sensor-equipped infant simulators that track and analyse performance. A recent study involving more than 200 rehabilitation professionals found that the training improved knowledge, enhanced professional competence, and reduced stress in caring for vulnerable infants.
CUHK noted plans to expand the programme’s applications to nursing, rehabilitation therapy, and special education.
