Tork, an Essity brand, reaffirmed its commitment to healthcare hygiene by participating in the World Health Organization’s World Hand Hygiene Day for the tenth consecutive year. In support of the 2025 theme, “It’s Always Hand Hygiene,” Tork promoted its free virtual reality (VR) training program, aimed at helping healthcare professionals strengthen their hand hygiene practices.

The Tork VR Clean Hands Training immerses users in a virtual hospital setting, allowing them to practice the WHO’s “five moments for hand hygiene” in realistic scenarios. The training is offered in multiple languages and is designed to improve engagement, recall, and behavioral change in a risk-free environment.

Thomas Bergin, Marketing Director for Healthcare at Essity, noted that while healthcare professionals understand the importance of hand hygiene, nearly 80% feel they still need improvement. Research cited by Tork suggests that VR training significantly enhances learning and retention.

Tork also supports healthcare facilities with customizable signage and dispenser placement guidance to encourage hygiene adherence. Bergin emphasized that effective hygiene not only improves patient safety but also boosts patient confidence, with 80% of patients feeling more assured when hand hygiene signage is visible in healthcare settings.
