KOCHI: Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi will provide specialty medical care to the members of Bangladesh Armed Forces (BAF), their retired personnel and their family members. An agreement in this regard covering patient care, medical education, research, training and exchange of healthcare professionals was signed by BAF director general of medical services Major General S M Motahar Hossain and Dr Prem Nair, medical director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.Dr Prem Nair said the collaboration will not only help heal bodies, but also strengthen bonds between the two great nations which share a common heritage and culture. “As per the agreement patients referred by BAF will be admitted to Amrita hospital for treatment.

The collaboration also involves long and short term training of doctors, nurses and paramedics belonging to BAF at Amrita hospital. We will also collaborate in medical research initiatives and joint projects of mutual interest to both the countries,” Dr Nair said.“The collaboration brings two nations closer. We are also going to set up telemedicine and tele-radiology facilities at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka which will connect doctors at Amrita hospital with our patients in Bangladesh for consultation. This collaboration will help save many lives,” Major General Motahar Hossain said.
