A new $1 million simulation centre has opened at Sturgeon Community Hospital to support staff in practicing medical response scenarios. Designed by the provincial eSIM program under Alberta Health Services, the facility was fully funded by the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation.
The centre was long-awaited, allowing realistic hospital-room simulations for events such as cardiac emergencies, trauma, maternity, and surgeries. The space includes a main training area, storage for equipment, and breakout rooms for debriefing or small-group learning.
Equipped with a high-fidelity mannequin named Grayson, the centre offers lifelike training experiences for staff. Foundation board chair Scott Olivieri highlighted the project as a lasting contribution to the hospital and community, emphasizing its role in advancing education, technology, and safe patient care through ongoing, realistic training opportunities.
