The Global Network for Simulation in Healthcare (GNSH) was founded in 2010 to promote the collaborative sharing of ideas that advance medical training and drive improvements in patient safety. Comprised of leading international organizations and corporations from around the world, GNSH provides an ideal forum for sharing advancements in medical training, evolving healthcare requirements, global understanding of healthcare needs and building strong relationships among providers and industry to ensure each patient receives the highest quality of care and each provider receives the highest quality training. Simply stated, our mission is to advance healthcare training through modern approaches and innovative solutions.
At the 2019 Patient Safety Movement Foundation Summit, GNSH made a commitment to work closely with the Patient Safety Movement Foundation to translate patient stories into 30-minute weekly training scenarios, 10 to 15 minutes of focused simulation followed by a 15-minute debrief that includes: what was effective; what could have been done differently; a review of the patient story to understand how errors impact patients, their families and providers; and a reflection of where processes and procedures can be optimized and improved.
Healthcare is complex and varies by country, by region, by resources, and most of all it varies by the teams of professionals providing the care to patients. Just as every patient is different, so is every healthcare provider.
One of the greatest challenges is determining the strengths and weaknesses of individuals, teams, and the complex systems that support how they provide care. This is where focused simulation training can play a critical role. It can quickly determine the ability of the team and system to handle common and uncommon patient conditions; highlight issues with patient care, communications, and organizational structures; and create adherence to best practices.
These training simulations create a foundation to enhance performance and improve outcomes. To achieve this, training must be frequent, and it must be targeted. More importantly, time spent by teams participating and debriefing translates into collaborative learning, team building, and is a mechanism for continuous process improvement.
GNSH’s vision is that each week, every provider team will experience the same case around the globe, localized for each region, and adapted for the different areas within the healthcare organization. Each case will challenge the ability of healthcare teams and healthcare systems to deliver safe patient care. Over time, the systems, teams and providers will refine strategies and tactics to ensure patients are receiving the highest possible quality of care.
GNSH’s hope is that by 2020, these 30-minute weekly training platforms will become foundational elements to eliminate all preventable medical errors by every healthcare team in every hospital in every corner of the world.
The Patient Safety Movement Foundation believes reaching ZERO preventable deaths in hospitals is not only the right goal, but also an attainable one with the right people, ideas and technology. The 2019 Summit gathered international hospital leaders, medical and information technology companies, the patient advocacy community, public policy makers and government officials, who discussed solutions to the leading challenges that cause preventable patient deaths in hospitals worldwide.

GNSH will initially address three APSS which cause the highest medical error in their 30-minute team training scenarios including sepsis, hospital acquired infections and medication errors.
PSMF believes that fostering relationships with like-minded individuals, organizations and industry partners is the driving force to reach zero preventable deaths by 2020.
