The U.S. airline industry added 4,231 jobs in March 2025, bringing total employment to 1,008,949, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. This marked a 0.42% increase over February’s total.

Scheduled passenger airlines, accounting for 54% of the workforce, added 2,791 employees in March. American Airlines led the gains with 1,478 new hires, followed by United Airlines with 859 and Delta with 586. Cargo airlines employed 457,877 people—46% of the industry total—and added 1,525 jobs. FedEx saw the largest increase among cargo carriers, adding 1,584 employees.

In terms of full-time equivalents (FTEs), which combine full- and part-time staffing, the industry reached 879,121 in March, up 2,797 from February. Scheduled passenger carriers added 2,575 FTEs, while cargo airlines increased by 306.

The data highlights continued growth in airline employment as both passenger and cargo sectors expand their operations in 2025.
