LATAM Airlines has partnered with NTT DATA to integrate virtual reality into its cabin crew training programs, significantly enhancing training efficiency and safety outcomes, according to a new case study. Using NTT DATA’s Syntphony Immersive Experiences platform, the airline created realistic VR modules covering emergency procedures, door operations, and fire scenarios.

The program allows up to 30 crew members to complete multiple simulations within 90 minutes—an improvement over traditional four-hour sessions that permitted only one practice per trainee. The immersive training also reduces the need for grounded aircraft, lowering operational costs. Implemented over five months, the VR system includes a detailed Airbus A320 simulation, performance metrics, and animated user interactions to closely mirror real-world situations.

The first course achieved a 100% success rate, prompting LATAM to explore wider adoption across its network. According to LATAM Airline’s leadership, the program has improved trainee engagement, comprehension, and productivity, offering a scalable model for future training development.
