Dubai-based Emirates has opened a new flight crew training centre, representing a US$135 million investment in pilot development. The 63,318 sq. ft. facility includes six full flight simulator bays and is located near the airline’s other training facilities, forming part of a wider aviation hub in Dubai.
The centre currently operates two Airbus A350 full flight simulators, with four additional devices, including Boeing 777X simulators, to follow. Once fully operational, the facility will contribute to a 54% increase in Emirates’ annual pilot training capacity, supporting approximately 130,000 training hours. Each simulator is capable of 7,500 training hours for up to 1,000 pilots per year.
The A350 simulator has been qualified at level D by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the highest standard available. In addition to simulators, the centre houses classrooms for recurrent, conversion, and command training, as well as 3D printing capabilities to manufacture training equipment components.
“Our new Emirates Crew Training Centre is a gamechanger and has a significant role to play, both in the industry’s ecosystem and Dubai’s emergence as a global aviation hub,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group.
The centre has already commenced training and will continue to expand as new devices are installed in the coming years.
