Rehearsing Helicopter Emergencies Before They Happen Aloft

entrol, a manufacturer of EASA and FAA certified FNPT, FTD and FFS flight simulators, has sold a Cabri G2 AATD simulator to the University of Dubuque in the United States.

The agreement was formalized in May 2026, and installation is scheduled for 2027 to support the growth of the university's rotor-wing program.

The simulator's cockpit is a replica of the Guimbal Cabri G2, the university's primary training helicopter. It includes a cylindrical visual system with three projectors, a database of 10 US airports and an integrated vibration system. A remote Instructor Operator Station (IOS) lets instructors change weather conditions, introduce system failures, pause scenarios and repeat maneuvers.

The simulator will be used across Private Pilot, Instrument and Commercial training, as well as CFI and CFII courses. Applications include instrument and emergency procedures, scenario-based training and Crew Resource Management (CRM), and continued student progress when weather or aircraft availability limits flying. It will also support instructor training and standardization.

"We wanted a simulator that closely matched the aircraft our students actually fly. entrol's Guimbal G2 simulator offered the aircraft-specific environment and training capabilities we were looking for," said Evan Lawler, Helicopter Chief Pilot at the University of Dubuque. "It will allow our students to practice procedures and challenging scenarios in a controlled environment before encountering them in the aircraft, giving them more repetition while improving safety, confidence, and decision-making".
