Maj. Gen. Jeannie Leavitt has been named dean of the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona, campus. She will begin her tenure in February 2026, bringing extensive experience in aviation operations, safety, and training after a 31-year career in the U.S. Air Force.

Leavitt previously served as the Chief of Safety for the Air Force and Space Force, directing aviation, ground, weapons, space, and nuclear safety programs. She was the inaugural chair of the Joint Safety Council and worked across the Department of Defense to advance proactive safety and mishap-prevention strategies.

Her career included leadership of multiple Air Force wings and more than 3,000 flight hours, including over 300 combat hours in the F-15E Strike Eagle. She is also a former instructor at the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, where she contributed to advanced training for fighter aviators.

Leavitt said she looks forward to supporting the development of skilled, safety-focused aviation professionals at Embry-Riddle’s Prescott campus.
