WestJet and CAE have signed a 15-year training agreement to establish the Alberta Training Centre of Excellence in Calgary. The facility, subject to customary contingencies, is scheduled to open in 2028.

The 126,000-square-foot centre will house eight full-flight simulators with room for expansion, as well as cabin trainers and digital learning systems. WestJet will be the primary commercial airline customer, conducting initial and recurrent training for pilots and cabin crew on the Boeing 737MAX, 737NG, 787 Dreamliner, and De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400).

In collaboration with Mount Royal University, the facility will combine training with research and development initiatives. The university will contribute academic expertise and student programs, including a planned Airline Transition Program designed to prepare students for commercial aviation careers with WestJet.

WestJet will be the inaugural commercial airline customer at the Alberta Training Centre of Excellence, securing early access to its facilities for pilot and cabin crew training.

Construction of the facility will begin later this year. Upon completion, the Centre will provide training services for WestJet, other carriers, and Mount Royal University students, while supporting workforce development in Alberta.
