India's Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has secured a major export order from the Government of the Sultanate of Oman to deliver a new training ship for the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO). The vessel is expected to be delivered within 18 months.
Designed specifically to support advanced naval training and maritime operations, the 104.25‑metre ship will serve as a core platform for developing Omani officer cadets and training teams at sea. With a beam of 13.88 metres and displacement of up to 3,500 tonnes, it will provide a purpose‑built instructional environment that integrates live operational capability with structured learning facilities.
The vessel will feature classrooms, training offices, accommodation facilities, and an onboard auditorium, enabling a world‑class training experience for up to 70 cadets. It will also incorporate a state‑of‑the‑art navigation system, an advanced communications suite, and helicopter‑operations capability, supporting mission‑relevant training in seamanship, ship handling, communications, and aviation integration.
SDHI CEO Rear Admiral V.K. Saxena (Retd) said the export contract highlights the company’s technical expertise and reinforces its reputation for delivering high‑quality naval platforms. The agreement also aligns with India’s broader maritime vision and the strategic support provided to domestic shipyards as they expand their global presence.
For the RNO, the new training ship represents a significant investment in workforce development, increasing capacity for live maritime instruction, long‑form training cruises, and operational readiness preparation.
