With Unreal Fest taking place next month in sunny Orlando, June 2-5, the simulation industry has a chance to get insights from organizations like NASA and CORYS on how they are leveraging cutting-edge real-time technology on innovative simulation projects.

Unreal Fest is Epic Games’ huge annual developer event, where creative minds gather to explore the future of interactive technology across a diverse range of industries including simulation, automotive, architecture, fashion, games, film & TV, broadcast & live events, and more.

A dedicated simulation track will feature a swathe of presentations that will dive into everything from the construction of next-gen simulators to the opportunities opening up from the convergence of AI and interactive 3D technology.

Some of the simulation sessions at the event include:

Capturing Military Doctrine in Behavior Trees Using LLMs | Lockheed Martin

This session explores using LLMs to integrate military doctrine into Unreal Engine AI, enhancing behavior tree creation for realistic training scenarios, with insights from Lockheed Martin and UCF research.

Closing the Sim-to-Real Gap with Unreal Engine | Scaled Foundations

This talk looks at how Open GRID uses Unreal Engine for scalable AI model development, bridging the sim-to-real gap with realistic simulations, and enabling adaptive robotics through advanced rendering and integrated AI pipelines.

Building a Next-Gen Simulator Production Pipeline with Unreal Engine 5 | CORYS

Get an overview of the CORYS project to completely redevelop its production pipeline under Unreal Engine 5, with the aim of bringing a new level of realism to rail simulation and increase production efficiency.

Generating Synthetic Data Using Unreal Engine | The Boeing Company

Take a dive into how Boeing uses Unreal Engine’s native tools and Editor Utility Widgets to generate scalable, annotated synthetic data for AI training, reducing costs and enabling safe simulation of rare edge cases.

How the NASA is Using Immersive Technology for Design and Training | NASA

Discover how the Center for Design and Space Architecture (CDSA) at NASA uses high-fidelity VR and Nanite technology to simulate the Gateway Space Station, enabling astronaut testing that improves design, safety, and training for future Artemis missions.

TerraCrowds in Action: High-Performance Crowd Simulations with UE | uCrowds

This session showcases TerraCrowds' high-performance, memory-oriented crowd simulation engine, integrated with Unreal Engine. It features efficient pathfinding, natural NPC movement, and hands-on demonstrations for simulations and digital twins using the Unreal plugin.

Transforming Digital Interactions and Training with MetaHumans | MAK Technologies

Come meet NICO: an AI-driven MetaHuman avatar system for VR/AR, combining voice, vision, and language models to enable adaptive, realistic interactions for training, with case studies demonstrating real-world impact and ROI.

That’s just a small part of what’s on at Unreal Fest however. Here’s a round-up of some of the other areas attendees can explore.

What’s on:

● The State of Unreal keynote, where Epic outlines its vision for the future of Unreal Engine and the Epic ecosystem

● Over 190 sessions across ten industry tracks

● Presentations by companies innovating in the simulation industry, including Scaled Foundations, Lockheed Martin, CORYS, NASA, Boeing, MAK Technologies, and uCrowd

● Hands-on labs

Areas:

Expo

A packed expo features the latest real-time tech and interactive 3D installations, including Unreal Engine, Fab, UEFN, MetaHuman Creator, Twinmotion, RealityCapture, Epic Online Services, and more. There’s also lots of innovative UE-driven tech to experience, developed by Epic’s partners.

Dev Hub

The Dev Hub provides the perfect opportunity for those working on Unreal Engine projects to pick the brains of Epic experts and get answers to their questions. Come along and tell the team about any roadblocks you’re hitting or development goals you want to achieve—they’ll be happy to try and help you out.

Gaming Lounge

Featuring the latest UE5 games, the Gaming Lounge is where Unreal Fest attendees can kick back and unwind.

Networking and socializing:

Various mixers and meetups throughout the event

Beer & Badges is where attendees pick up their badge and swag, grab a little liquid refreshment, and rub shoulders with fellow attendees before the action kicks off. The Tuesday night reception offers the chance to hang out with fellow attendees after the first full day of sessions to mingle, swap notes, and let your hair down.

The Unreal Fest Party at the House of Blues

It wouldn’t be Unreal Fest without a party. Attendees can celebrate with the Epic Games team at House of Blues.

Unreal Fest is an incredibly popular and successful event both for learning, networking, and meeting Epic people. With UE 5.6 on the horizon, attendees will have a chance to get a headstart on learning about all the new features that can be leveraged in simulation projects.

Unreal Fest takes place on June 2–5 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Tickets are still available to purchase—and Epic is offering Halldale subscribers a 20% discount with this code: HALLDALE20.
