Epsom and St Helier hospitals in the United Kingdom opened a new £100,000 simulation training centre to let doctors and nurses hone their skills and test their reactions during life or death situations.

The centre has a collection of six simulation manikins that represent different ages and genders (including a pregnant woman, three adults, a young child and a baby), and lets doctors and nurses from all disciplines train for medical scenarios in a safe environment – from caring for a patient who deteriorates suddenly to delivering bad news – with a feedback and review session from senior staff. The centre also has areas that recreate various patient areas, for example general wards, A&E departments, operating theatres and a patient’s home.
