HENSOLDT supported live naval training aboard a German frigate, testing its non-rotating TRS-4D radar in combination with Diehl Defence's IRIS-T SLM air defense system. The exercises demonstrated the radar’s integration with the air defense system under operational conditions.
The naval TRS-4D radar belongs to the same medium-range radar family as the ground-based TRML-4D, which has been integrated into the IRIS-T SLM for several years and has performed in reconnaissance missions in Ukraine. The family concept allows for ongoing product updates and offers benefits in spare parts supply and training.
HENSOLDT has decades of experience developing radar systems for naval applications. Various versions of the TRS-4D radar are already in service on German Navy ships, including the F125 frigate and K130 corvette.
Markus Rothmaier, Head of Naval & Ground Radars at HENSOLDT, said, “We can use software to expand the functionality of our products so that they can be used in different scenarios. With our capabilities in motion, we are predestined for maritime applications. Therefore, the use of the TRS-4D radar at sea in combination with the IRIS-T air defense system is another logical step on our path to equipping maritime units for today's requirements.”
