NASA is running a 378-day Mars simulation at its Mars Dune Alpha habitat in Houston to study human performance, health, and psychology in isolation. Participants will carry out simulated Mars walks, robotic operations, crop cultivation, and test relevant technology, while experiencing communication delays similar to those on Mars.

Laura Marie, a British-born pilot now working in the US, is part of the team as an alternate crew member, ready to step in if needed. She described the mission as a significant opportunity to contribute to research supporting future crewed missions.

The simulation also provides downtime for personal activities while gathering data to inform long-duration spaceflight and multi-planetary exploration.
