CORYS has been awarded a contract by Framatome to develop a dynamic training simulator for the Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) oven at the Ugine site.

The simulator will model a zirconium ingot melting session, built on CORYS's INDISS PLUS dynamic simulation software, and will reproduce VAR oven behaviour in real time to support operator training.

The project is structured in two phases. Phase 1, before summer, covers development of a driving simulator for a first-melt operation, including nominal operation with a software operator panel. Phase 2, by year-end, adds fault scenarios, replaces the software panel with a hardware panel, and delivers instructor training on the simulation software.

The contract follows CORYS's earlier delivery of a digital twin simulator to Framatome's Jarrie site for the zirconium purification process, extending the collaboration along the zirconium production chain.
