Finger Lakes Community College in New York is using portable welding simulators to deliver training directly at workplaces, including a bus manufacturing facility in Penn Yan. 

The initiative is part of a broader effort to address regional welding shortages by bringing small, flexible training programs to employers and communities across several counties between Syracuse and Rochester. Using a portable augmented-reality simulator, instructors can teach foundational skills safely before students transition to hands-on welding practice in a shop setting. Six employees at Coach and Equipment have just completed an introductory welding course held on-site at the plant.
