Marine Group Boat Works (MGBW) has been awarded a contract by the San Diego Unified Port District to design, fabricate and install a multi-deck live fire training simulator for the San Diego Harbor Police Department.
The simulator will be installed aboard the Port District's existing LCM-8 troop landing vessel, converting it into a dedicated shipboard firefighting training asset. The multi-deck structure will feature two burn chambers and operate as a Class "B" burn prop fueled by propane, simulating fires commonly encountered aboard vessels. The interior configuration — including doors, hatches, stairwells and ladders — will mirror those found on active ships.
The contract also includes ongoing maintenance and training for the Fire Instructor Cadre.
"Simulators like the one used for fire and tactical training are essential for maintaining the high level of readiness our officers need to protect the waterfront," said Port of San Diego Harbor Police Chief Magda Fernandez. "The flexibility of the new design ensures we can train for the full spectrum of maritime threats and emergencies while strengthening coordination with regional partner agencies."
