Based in New Zealand, the Massey University School of Aviation was established in 1990 and soon after commenced delivering the Bachelor of Aviation- Air Transport Pilot (B.Av) degree. The School is now accepting applications for July 2017 and January 2018 intake.

The School offers academic programmes in aviation management, doctoral level studies and qualificatios, professional short courses in aviation, is ISO 9001-2000 certified, enjoys the unique distinction of holding an Equivalence Approval from the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority, and is a preferred flight training provider for Air New Zealand.

Courses now accepting applications include the Bachelor of Aviation (Air Transport Pilot), which consists of three years full time study. This is a university undergraduate qualification intended for career pilots; a 480 credit degree delivered in three years. It is structured around a set of core papers, delivered during the first two years that cvoer technical subjects, such as navigation, meteorology etc. Students graduate with all the examination credits for issue of an ATPL. Flight training is integrated as the practicum element of the academic papers, and students complete approximately 200-220 hours of flying and are issued with a NZ CPL, and Multi Engine Instrument Rating.

The Bachelor of Aviation Management is a 360 credit degree consisting of 24 academic papers. The qualification provides a route for people employed in the aviation industry to improve their skills and knowledge to further their careers in aviation.

Postgraduate degrees include the Master of Aviation which consists of two pathways to a 180-credit Master of Aviation qualification that can be completed through 18 months of full time study or 36 months of part time study. The pathways are either the Research Pathway, or Professional Practice pathway, the latter being a fully taught Master's programme.

The School also offers a doctoral programme in aviation. In addition, Massey University offers a variety of short courses options such as contract pilot training through to aviation professional development ground courses for airline or airport staff through to introducing non-aviators to the safe operation of RPAS/UAVs in the aviation environment.

Massey University School of Aviation sits within one of New Zealand's largest universities, and is possibly one of the few tertiary education institutions in the world that provides professional training for pilots, blended seamlessly with university accredited academic qualifications. The School has been engaged in ab initio flight training since 1987, and has completed a number of international cadet pilot training courses for airlines from Indonesia and China.
