Partnership Formed to Train Aircraft Engineers

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei – Aviation Australia and Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their collaboration in aircraft maintenance training and workforce development, supporting the next generation of licensed aircraft maintenance engineers for Brunei’s national carrier.

The agreement formalises a long-term partnership between the two organisations and builds on the successful training outcomes already being achieved by Royal Brunei Airlines engineering apprentices currently studying with Aviation Australia in Brisbane. The collaboration focuses on delivering the internationally recognised Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering under Aviation Australia’s EASA Part 147 approval, providing students with the technical knowledge and skills required for future aircraft maintenance engineering careers.

Under the agreement, Aviation Australia and Royal Brunei Airlines will collaborate to train aircraft maintenance engineers, deliver customised training programs, share technical expertise and industry best practice, and explore future workforce development initiatives to support the long-term sustainability of Brunei’s aviation sector.

Aviation Australia Chief Executive Officer, Glenn Ryan, said the partnership demonstrates the shared commitment of both organisations to developing highly skilled aviation professionals and creating sustainable workforce pathways.

“This strategic agreement is a significant step forward. Together we are developing a sustainable pipeline of engineering talent that will support the long-term growth and success of Royal Brunei Airlines while strengthening aviation capability across the region," said Ryan.

"Developing skilled and capable aircraft maintenance engineers is critical to supporting our operational excellence, maintaining the highest standards of safety, and enabling the airline's long-term growth," said Royal Brunei Airlines Interim Chief Executive Officer, Colonel Norsuriati Haji Sharbini. 

The MOU further strengthens Aviation Australia’s growing international training partnerships. It also demonstrates the role Australian organisations are playing to support Brunei’s workforce capability development in line with its 2035 Vision and Australia’s Invested: Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, a theme highlighted by Lisa Rodgers PSM, Australia’s Business Champion to Brunei, during her recent visit.
