The Independence City Council in Ohio met on July 10, 2025, to review public safety initiatives, including plans to strengthen police training. Council members unanimously approved the purchase of five new tasers, increasing the department’s total to 29, along with a virtual reality (VR) training system from Axon. The VR system will let officers practice with a mock taser in realistic scenarios, aiming to reduce costs by lowering the need for live cartridges during annual certification. Funding will come from federal forfeiture funds.
During the meeting, a council member suggested considering products from Andrill, an Ohio-based company specializing in UAVs and VR technology, for future needs.
