The Indian government is establishing the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), a National Centre of Excellence focused on animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, film, and extended reality (AVGC-XR). Modeled on IITs and IIMs, the IICT will be located in Mumbai and supported by global tech partners such as Google, Microsoft, Meta, and NVIDIA.
At the WAVES 2025 summit, industry leaders signed agreements with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to support the institute’s development. The government has allocated ₹400 crore for the project, and a 10-acre site in Film City has been set aside for future expansion.
Phase one has already begun at a temporary campus equipped with high-end production and learning facilities. The institute will offer specialized courses and training programs to develop talent and innovation in the AVGC-XR sector, with plans to expand across India in future phases.
